Since April 2023, Sudan's internal conflict has caused death, destruction, and the displacement of 10 million people internally and a further 2.1 million outside the country. As a result, one out of every eight internally displaced persons in the world is Sudanese, and more children have been displaced from their homes in Sudan than anywhere else. Mass displacement has disrupted access to medical assistance, supply lines, and healthy living conditions.
The ongoing turmoil has crippled the health system with massive destruction of infrastructure and increase of disease. This is causing outbreaks in several states of cholera, measles, malaria, poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) and dengue fever. Despite the breakdown of the country, the Shai Fund team delivering vital medical supplies to vulnerable communities, working tirelessly in partnership with church communities and local medical facilities to deliver lifesaving medicines to the Sudanese population.
This vital assistance reaching high risk Sundanese communities is helping save lives, families and communities threatened by deadly disease.
